"On average, we have around 29.000 visitors per day. We can reach 35.000 visitors on days with night visits and weekends, those are really our strong days. The record was 37,000 people. We can compare it with the Louvre which has 30,000 visitors a day. So we are very close to their numbers."

12 SOUNDBITE (French) Muriel Troisfontaines, tourist from Belgium:
"I’m sorry that we can’t book a ticket in the morning for the afternoon because it is maximum two hours after that we can book but the building is magnificent. It is really worth to see again this building that is now so white. It is less quiet as there are more visitors now, it is more of a museum than a catholic church but it’s magnificent. It is fluid inside, there is no traffic. "

19. SOUNDBITE (German) Christina Schächter, tourist from Germany:
"It was more of a chance visit for us today. We have a stopover in Paris and our hotel is somehow just around the corner. And we were thrilled when everything went so quickly. The queue wasn’t particularly long and within ten minutes we were in. We were able to walk through it easily and still had a bit of time to sit down and really take in the renovation work. It’s beautiful, very bright, very lovely, very radiant. Yes, very pretty. We didn’t even know that today was such a special day. And we were wondering how it was in summer when there are so many tourists here. But now we know why it’s perhaps a bit busier today”

STORYLINE:
A month after its reopening, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris announced a record number of visitors, with 800,000 people seeing the renovated church.
With an average of 30 thousand persons a day the cathedral attracted similar numbers of visitors to the Louvre museum.
The entrance is free of charge but the visitors are advised to book it in advance to ensure they are not disappointed.
Christina Schächter, a tourist from Landau, Germany, said she didn’t need to queue for long.
"We were able to walk through it easily and still had a bit of time to sit down and really take in the renovation work. It’s beautiful, very bright, very lovely," she explained.
Notre-Dame was reopened on 7 December 2024 following completion of the restoration work five years after the fire that destroyed the cathedral’s spire and roof and caused extensive damage to its interior on 15 April 2019.
