"There are very mixed feelings. On the one hand, happy and mixed with terrible pressure that it will really happen and I’m constantly trying to put myself aside to look at the picture and protect myself from the fear that it might not happen, and even if it does happen, I don’t know how Ofer will come back. If he’s alive or not but I do believe that he is alive. I really hope that he will really be among the returnees."

5. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Ifat Kalderon, cousin of hostage Ofer Kalderon:
"I really, really hope that it won’t end with only 33 hostages returning home but all of them because everyone must return, both the living and the dead. The soldiers too, everyone must return home."

7. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Ifat Kalderon, cousin of hostage Ofer Kalderon
"This war must end. We must talk about the day after, we must return all the kidnapped people home and from here I say ‘thank you’ to (US President-elect Donald) Trump because as I thought, when he was elected, when he said he wanted everyone to be at home, when he entered the White House, so this was the luck of our kidnapped people. It’s just a shame because it could have been done earlier and really saved so much, so many lives, stolen lives who could have returned home alive and not corpses."
8. Wide of rally
STORYLINE:
Relatives of Israeli hostages being held in the Gaza Strip by Hamas militants took to the streets of Tel Aviv on Wednesday night to call for a ceasefire deal which included the return of all remaining hostages.

A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas had been confirmed by the United States and Qatar earlier Wednesday, pausing the devastating 15-month war in Gaza and clearing the way for dozens of Israeli hostages to go home.

The ceasefire brings hopes of winding down the most deadly and destructive war Israel and Hamas have ever fought — a conflict that has destabilized the Middle East and sparked worldwide protests.

Some of the protesters shared their reaction to the deal, expressing a mixture of feelings at what might come.

"On the one hand, happy and mixed with terrible pressure that it will really happen and I’m constantly trying to put myself aside to look at the picture and protect myself from the fear that it might not happen," said Ifat Kalderon, cousin of hostage Ofer Kalderon.

"I really, really hope that it won’t end with only 33 hostages returning home but all of them because everyone must return, both the living and the dead," she added.

Protests and rallies have been held on a near-weekly basis in Israel, calling for the release of the hostages and an end to the war.

The Israel Hamas-war has killed more than 46,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to health authorities there.

The Health Ministry does not distinguish between fighters and civilians, but says women and children make up more than half the fatalities.

Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza began on Oct. 7, 2023, when militants stormed into southern Israel and killed about 1,200 people and abducted around 250.

A third of the 100 hostages still held in Gaza are believed to be dead.
