STORYLINE:
An explosion followed by a black plume of smoke was spotted on the skyline of the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, as ceasefire talks in Qatar were said to be close to conclusion.
The explosion was seen at 15:02GMT.
The United States, Egypt and Qatar have spent the past year trying to mediate an end to the war sparked by Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack into Israel and the release of dozens of hostages captured that day. Officials now say they are closer than ever to announcing an agreement.
The Israel Hamas-war has killed more than 46,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to health authorities there. The Health Ministry does not distinguish between fighters and civilians, but says women and children make up more than half the fatalities.
