"We opened enrolment after the liberation of Syria and the fall of the oppressive regime. There was a significant turnout from our volunteer brothers. This is one of the first courses with approximately 400 to 415 volunteers. The goal of this course is to maintain security and safety in the Syrian provinces, pursue the remnants of the (Assad) regime after its fall, ensure security and stability in the region, and protect civilians in general.”

"I want to convey the message to the entire world that we, as members of the General Security apparatus, are not uneducated, uninformed, or lacking in social awareness in the true sense. Today, we have social awareness, health education, and psychological and social support. We have advanced studies, we speak languages such as English, French, and Turkish, and we possess all the necessary skills to achieve our community goals, God willing. The goal is to achieve security and peace of mind for the people, protecting them from thefts, assaults and injustice. We are here to remove injustice from everyone, regardless of their sect.”

STORYLINE:
The first class of Syrian police cadets since the ouster of President Bashar Assad graduated on Tuesday from the newly reopened police college in Damascus.
The college began accepting applications shortly after insurgents toppled Assad last month, ending decades of his family rule that was known for widespread surveillance, arbitrary detentions, torture and deaths of real and perceived opponents.
The country’s new leadership under the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham has been working on restructuring Syria’s military and security forces, Oussama Mohammad, a military official at the police college, told The Associated Press on Tuesday.
“The purpose of this course is to preserve security and safety in Syria’s provinces and to track down remnants of the (Assad) regime,” he said.
During the ceremony, recruits in police uniforms marched with rifles, chanting “God is great.”
Over 400 young men applied to join the police, Mohammad said.
