Both tapes 12 mins approx
Two tapes
1. Sit down interview with All Saints. Including soundbites:
Melanie Blatt, On how the band got back together: "Last Summer we met up again and got back in contact and all just became mates literally like ‘that’, like nothing had happened, and within months, Shaz had gone to a record company about writing for other artists at that label, and basically the guy said that if we would be interested there would be a deal here."
Nicole Appleton, On how they’ve rediscovered the fun of being together: "The whole drive, everything feels so fresh and fun again, because towards the last album we were already kind of on a bumpy road, so it wasn’t that fun going in the studio then. So going in the studio now is just like when we first went in the studio, it’s good."
Natalie Appleton, On not knowing how to communicate: "I think we just didn’t know how to handle certain situations, and we didn’t know how to communicate, and I guess it was a whole life changing event when the band took off, so, so much was happening at once and it was like wow, and we just broke down as friends, and we forgot about our friendships and that was the most important thing that we make sure we were solidified and we broke that."
Melanie Blatt, On lyrics not being so sexual anymore (due to being a new mother:)
"If there’s anything it’s that Shaz isn’t very sexually explicit, that would be it."
Nicole Appleton, On reggae being new influence on them: "Then when we all got back together and we were discussing music and I was Specials and The Beat and Shaz was talking about Marley and stuff like that, we just decided to incorporate all the brass sounds and the reggae and all that kind of stuff as like the new venue for our sounds because that was our influence when we were younger."
Nicole Appleton, On idea for Rock Steady video, directed by Wiz: "And then he came up with the idea of robbing a bank and going to Bucharest which was actually really good, and yeah, it was very kind of movie like, he shot it very classy and it also went with out comeback in a sense, he didn’t make us look silly. It was very good and we were very happy with it."
Nicole Appleton, On possibility of going head to head in charts with new Oasis album: "We’re still not sure about our release dates for the album or anything so that’s why it’s just a rumour."
(Q.Reporter – "how do you think you’ll fare?") I think we’ll do very well."
Melanie Blatt: "We’d do even better in a physical fight."
Nicole Appleton: "And drink him under the table."
(Q.Reporter – "you haven’t spoken about it then?")
"I don’t know him, I’ve never met him."
Shaznay Lewis: "Well there’s no big black hole that’s going to open up and swallow us in if it’s not a hit."
Natalie Appleton: "We’re talking about it so much that we haven’t even released the single yet so it’s really early days to know what to expect and all; we’re just happy to be here and happy to have completed an album which we’re so proud of, and that’s really all, I mean we’re just excited and happy to be here and hopefully people will like it."
