2. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Adam Schiff, (D) California:
"I’ve been visiting the different shelters to help in any way I can hand out food during lunch or dinner, but also to get a sense of what’s going on, what the needs are, whether they need any resources they’re not getting, which places have a FEMA presence or an SBA presence. And I’m just so grateful for the incredible volunteerism and support effort. I think it’s been extraordinary. We’re working hard to bring all the federal resources back to California that we can. The Biden administration has been phenomenal. But the need is intense and it’s going to go on for some time."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Adam Schiff, (D) California – on concerns about the Trump administration:
"I am concerned about it, but I’m hoping that they will take the approach, frankly, that I’ve taken over my years in Congress, and that is we’ve seen disasters in every part of the country of different kinds, earthquakes and floods and fire and hurricanes. I have never once asked or even considered, is this a blue state or red state, a blue community, a red one. It’s never mattered to me. These are all Americans. I would hope that’s the approach the incoming administration uses. I’m certainly going to be fighting to bring more help back to California."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Adam Schiff, (D) California – on concerns about the FAIR Plan:
"We’re going to make sure that the FAIR plan and those in it get the help that’s guaranteed under that program. We’ll do whatever is necessary. We’re going to also have to address the broader insurance crisis that has forced people into the FAIR plan. This is something I’ve been working on for years over the opposition of the insurance industry. The insurance industry remains very profitable, but we can expect to see more major climate disasters and we need to figure out the insurance piece along with everything else."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Adam Schiff, (D) California:
"I’ve been urging that we establish an independent commission to look at both the preparedness and the response. What we did well, what we didn’t do well. We’re also going to have to, I hope, as a part of that, look at the broader picture. Mega-fires may become more routine, tragically. And what does that mean in terms of our resiliency, our urban planning, our preparedness? Are we going to have to think very differently now about climate disasters? So some big questions that we’re going to need to answer. But right now, the focus needs to be on putting these fires out."

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Roya Lavasani, lost Malibu home in the Palisades Fire:
"Our business, which was the real estate business with four apartment buildings next to each other completely burned and turned to ashes because the firefighter didn’t let me water hose in the area. For three hours, I was watching the area constantly. Then they came again and they told me, You have to leave, ma’am. I told them my tenants did not take their belongings. I feel responsible for them and I want to water this area to keep this area safe. As long as I was there, everything was nice and good. There was no fire in my area and my neighborhood. So I continued watering it. Then suddenly I noticed firefighters came and shut the valves off on me."
