STORYLINE:
Residents from the Los Angeles area drove by the Hollywood sign after seeing fake reports of the iconic city landmark on fire.
John, a North Hollywood native who didn’t want to share his last name, said he saw an Instagram post showing the sign burning, calling it heartbreaking only to find it intact.
"Not nice to do things like that, especially when this is our home city," said John.
The Sunset Fire broke out in the Hollywood Hills on Wednesday night, threatening one of Los Angeles’ most iconic spots as firefighters battled to get under control three other major blazes that killed five people, put 130,000 people under evacuation orders and ravaged communities from the Pacific Coast to inland Pasadena.
The Palisades fire was the most destructive in the Los Angeles history, with at least 1,000 structures burned.
