“Military pressure endangers the lives of the hostages. Military pressure has killed and is killing them. Military pressure also endangers and harms the lives of our soldiers. The policy that prioritizes the continuation of fighting must be replaced by a policy of saving lives and a policy committed to the return of all the hostages.”

“We don’t want any more people to join our community of agony and pain. And yet, tragically, just yesterday, the AlZayadni families joined us. We implore all world leaders to make a deal and bring all 99 remaining hostages home. They represent 23 different nations. They are Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists. I will end by asking all of our leaders the first question posed by God in the Bible in Genesis to man. Where are you? Bring them home now.“

STORYLINE:
Relatives of Israeli hostages killed in Gaza appealed on Thursday for a prompt deal to free all remaining hostages, a day after Israeli soldiers recovered the body of an additional hostage from the besieged coastal enclave.
The military said the body of Yosef AlZaydani was recovered in an underground tunnel in southern Gaza. The army was determining if another set of remains belongs to the man’s son.
“We don’t want any more people to join our community of agony and pain," said Rachel Goldberg-Polin, the Israeli-American mother of the late Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who was killed in Gaza and his body recovered last September.
"Yet, tragically, just yesterday, the AlZayadni families joined us,” she said.
Yosef and his son Hamzah AlZayadni were thought to still be alive before Wednesday’s announcement, and news about their fate could ramp up pressure on Israel to move forward with a deal.
“We implore all world leaders to make a deal and bring all 99 remaining hostages home,” Goldberg-Polin said at a media briefing in Tel Aviv.
Meirav Svirsky, the sister of the late Itay Svirsky whose body was recovered from Gaza and daughter of Rafi and Orit Svirsky who were killed on October 7, called for a policy of saving lives.
“Military pressure endangers the lives of the hostages. Military pressure has killed and is killing them," she said.
Many families fear their loved ones’ fate is at risk as long as the war in Gaza rages on.
The appeal comes as Israel and Hamas are considering a ceasefire deal that would free the remaining hostages and halt the fighting in Gaza.
Israel says about a third of the remaining 100 hostages have died, but believes as many as half could be dead.
The bodies of around three dozen hostages have been recovered in Gaza and eight hostages have been rescued by the army.
The war has killed over 46,000 Palestinians, according to the territory’s Health Ministry.
It does not say how many were fighters, but says women and children make up over half the fatalities.
The military says it has killed over 17,000 militants, without providing evidence.
