“The defense ministers of Japan and Indonesia agreed that there needs to be cooperation (on promoting military equipment). Of course, further exploration is needed over what parts will be developed, whether in ships or other defense equipment. But in principle, both defense ministers welcomed the cooperation on promoting military equipment.”

STORYLINE:
Indonesia’s government said Tuesday it has agreed to continue stalled talks on jointly developing naval vessels with Japan.
Japan’s Defense Minister Gen Nakatani met with Indonesia’s Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoedd in Jakarta for talks.
Indonesia’s defense ministry spokesperson Brig. Gen. Frega Wenas told reporters after the meeting that both officials agreed to promote military equipment cooperation and transfer of its technology.
“Of course, further exploration is needed over what parts will be developed, whether in ships or other defense equipment," Wenas said.
Nakatani arrived in Jakarta on Sunday for Indonesia-Japan defense ministerial meeting, and to convey the joint development proposal of Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyers with Indonesia that has stalled over the past few years, according to Japanese media.
