STORYLINE:
Little Amal, a puppet symbolizing refugee children, was presented on Friday at the Central Train Station in the Chilean capital, Santiago.

Amal arrives in South America after traveling to more than fifteen countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany, carrying her message of resilience and hope.

The puppet arrived in Santiago as one of the main attractions of the Santiago a Mil International Theater Festival. On January 25, it will travel more than 2,400 miles (four thousand kilometers) from the coast of central Chile to the Atacama Desert.

The 11.48 feet tall puppet representing a 10-year-old Syrian girl marches globally as a symbol of compassion and human rights, highlighting the plight of displaced children, especially those separated from their families.

"(Amal) makes us reflect on fundamental issues such as forced migration and the war that plagues many countries today. In that sense, we are very proud," said Carolina Arredondo from Chile’s Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage.

This is the second time the puppet has visited Latin America, followed by its visit to Mexico last year, and the first time it landed in South America.
