“Millions of people in the city of Porto Alegre, in southern Brazil, are now bracing. On the next few days, the situation is likely to be this or even worse as heavy rains approach their state. On the next few days they’ll have just as bad or even worse as heavy rains are expected through Sunday. This state capital of Rio Grande do Sul State in southern Brazil has been hit hard since last week. Authorities said on Wednesday that at least 100 people died and almost 130 are missing in the region. Hundreds of thousands lost their homes and more could follow soon. We flew over Porto Alegre and other cities of it’s metropolitan area this morning and it was easy to see that some houses still had water on their roof. Some residents are choosing to return home anyway but authorities say that the risk for them and the entire state is far from over.”
