2. SOUNDBITE (English) Arthur Aidala, Attorney:
"Ingrid Lewis-Martin did what she’s done literally thousands of times since she was in the state Senate office, since she was in the (inaudible) president’s office and since she was in city hall, she helped a constituent. She helped a citizen navigate the thick red tape of city government. Eric Adams ran on the promise, ‘I’m going to help businesses go up. I am not going to help bring businesses down.’ And what she was doing here was just moving things along. And the district attorney today said, ‘she helped move something to the front of the line and treated people differently.’ Well, you know what? This case is being treated so differently than almost every other case in this courthouse."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Arthur Aidala, Attorney:
"They are saying that in November of 2022, a constituent asked Ingrid to do, to make a call to see how something was progressing in the Department of Buildings and then in August of 2023, her son gets a check, gets two checks, $50,000 each from the two other co-defendants deposited in his account. And then he goes and buys a car. Using your God given common sense, does that sound like a New York City bribery scheme or does it sound like a bunch of people who know each other? Her son is friends with these guys. These guys need some help figuring out how to get something done in the thick city of New York. The thick red tape city of New York."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Arthur Aidala, Attorney:
"Almost ten months later, her son gets these checks, puts it into a bank account and goes and buys a car. Is there a cover up here? Is anyone trying to hide anything? The district attorney says she used the Signal app. Go into that district attorney’s office and find out how many assistant district attorneys, find out how many investigators, find out how many congressmen, FBI agents use the Signal app. If the signal app now, having it on your phone is probable cause that a crime has occurred, we’re all in trouble."

7. STILL of New York City Mayor Eric Adams and chief advisor to the mayor Ingrid Lewis-Martin during a press conference
STORYLINE:
The New York City mayor’s former chief adviser, her son and two real estate investors were indicted on Thursday on bribery and conspiracy charges that came as the mayor himself fights a separate corruption case.
Ingrid Lewis-Martin, who until recently was one of the most powerful people in city government, was brought into a Manhattan courtroom in handcuffs. She, her son Glenn D. Martin II — a DJ who once performed at City Hall — and real estate investors Raizada Vaid and Mayank Dwivedi pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors said Lewis-Martin — who left her post only last weekend — and her son raked in over $100,000 and got other help in exchange for her speeding approvals for construction projects.
Lewis-Martin’s lawyer said outside court that she simply helped a constituent cut through the Big Apple’s thick red tape.
“What she was doing here was just moving things along," said the attorney, Arthur Aidala, calling the case “ridiculous.” He said the $100,000 was for a legitimate business deal involving Lewis-Martin’s son but didn’t provide details.
