17. SOUNDBITE (Croatian) Sanja Cinkopan Korotaj, director of the Pula Tourist Board:
"Well, it’s always demanding to organize events in the arena, but we have had some experience with this, as several years ago the venue hosted an ice hockey match. So, we knew that this could be done. And, in line with all the rules and regulations, which the Pula Film Festival has a lot of experience dealing with, this idea materialized."

19. SOUNDBITE (Croatian) Sanja Cinkopan Korotaj, director of the Pula Tourist Board:
"Apart from the film festival, the arena also hosts other events, like different concerts, from classical music to pop and rock events. We also have an annual event in the summer months, which reenacts Roman times and gladiator fights. There are also smaller events held there, like the children’s carnival. The ice rink is a new way for the locals to use the venue. Normally events at the arena are open to ticket holders, but the ice rink is open to anyone, they can walk by, visit, skate or not skate, and just spend time here. So this makes it more accessible to locals, and, of course, for any visitors who come to Pula."

LEADIN:
An ancient Roman amphitheatre in Croatia has been transformed for the first time into a magical ice rink for the Christmas season.
The monument in the seaside city of Pula, which dates back to the 1st century AD, is now a sparkling winter wonderland.
STORYLINE:
Once gladiators stalked this amphitheatre, entertaining ancient Romans.
Now it’s ice skaters gliding across the arena floor.
For the very first time in its two millennia history, the iconic Pula Arena has been transformed into a winter wonderland.
Local, tourists, families, teens and couples looking for a festive date night can enjoy whizzing around the ice inside these ancient stone walls.
The arena is one of the largest Roman amphitheatres still in existence, and one of Croatia’s most famous landmarks.
But this winter activity is something new.
A bit of festive fun just metres from the Adriatic.
