"Everything that is happening now in Georgia is out of constitution, out of legislation and same like the procedure that they are calling the presidential election is nothing. For us the only legitimate source of power is President Salome Zourabichvili. So, we, opposition, people here, young people who are here we do not recognize the procedure that is happening inside of this Parliament building."

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of Georgians protested in front of the Parliament building in the capital of Tbilisi on Saturday as a former soccer star is set to become the president of Georgia.
The opposition accuse the ruling Georgian Dream party of tightening its grip in what they say is a blow to the country’s European aspirations and a victory for its former imperial ruler, Russia.
Giorgi Vashadze, leader of Unity National Movement Coalition, said everything happening politically was "out of constitution."
"We do not recognize the procedure that is happening inside of this Parliament building," he said.
An Oct. 26 vote gave the ruling party control of parliament in the South Caucasus nation.
Now its candidate Mikheil Kavelashvili — a 53-year-old former Premier League striker — is set to replace the pro-Western president.
That president and the opposition have accused Georgian Dream of rigging the Oct. 26 vote with Moscow’s help.
They have boycotted parliament sessions and demanded an election rerun.
Thousands of Georgians protested in Tbilisi’s streets for more than two weeks following the announcement of the Prime Minister to halt EU accession talks.
Pro-Western Salome Zourabichvili has been president since 2018 and has vowed to stay on after her six-year term ends Monday, describing herself as the only legitimate leader until a new election is held.
