4. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman:
"All that can and should be discussed during the talks. We should not run ahead before a truce takes place. We have repeatedly said that a truce isn’t something we want, we want peace that could be achieved after our conditions are met and after all the goals set by us are fulfilled. But, at the same time, Russia remains open to talks. Now there are no conditions for talks, as the Ukrainian side has been avoiding them and ruling them out. We continue our special military operation.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman:
"The statement (by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on strikes with long-range weapons on Russia) conforms to our position. In this case, we have a shared vision of causes of escalation and that is positive. Obviously, Trump realizes what escalates the conflict.”

STORYLINE:
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said there is currently no basis for peace talks with Ukraine.
Asked about discussions about the possible deployment of European peacekeepers to monitor a prospective truce in Ukraine, Peskov said that this and other ideas could be discussed at peace talks, but added that there is no basis for them yet.
“All that can and should be discussed during the talks,” Peskov said in a conference call with reporters on Friday.
“We have repeatedly said that a truce isn’t something we want, we want peace that could be achieved after our conditions are met and after all the goals set by us are fulfilled. But, at the same time, Russia remains open to talks.”
He added that “now there are no conditions for talks, as the Ukrainian side has been avoiding them and ruling them out.”
Commenting on Donald Trump’s criticism of Ukraine using the U.S.-supplied longer-range missiles to strike the territory of Russia, Peskov said that “it conforms to our position.”
“In this case, we have a shared vision of causes of escalation and that is positive. Obviously, Trump realizes what escalates the conflict,” he said.
