“You know, you guys witnessed that you can comment that himself. I mean, he’s, you know, being, you know, accused of, you know, some serious matters. And, you know, I think he’s taken as well as he can.”

“You know what? I haven’t– I haven’t received anything. I got paperwork, and I want to meet with the district attorney and we’ll have hearings. We’ll be able to see all that. But I haven’t seen anything."
REPORTER: “Are you, as a human being, aware of what happened to New York over the last week? -were you aware before you were retained?”
DICKEY: “I mean, I don’t have a whole lot of time to follow news. I, of course, knew of it, but I don’t, I don’t follow a lot of things sometimes in news because sometimes the press gets things wrong. Like I said, I was very irritated, getting some backlash already that some news agency had indicated we waive the arraignment, excuse me, assuming we waive the extradition. And that’s what irritates lawyers like me, is if you’re going to print it, get it right.”
REPORTER: “Do you find it surreal that you’re now representing the guy that they’re looking for?”
DICKEY: “I don’t know. No.”

(Q: ”Right. It seems like on the bench you guys were showing a little laugh, like, has he have you formed a little friendship with him?”)
“Sharing on the bench like–”
REPORTER: “Like when you were sitting up there at the table, you were kind of– like, have you ever. Do you have a friendship with him?”
DICKEY: ”Yeah. I mean, he’s my client, and, you know, I want him to have trust and faith in me, you know, and have trust and faith in him. And yeah, I mean, that’s we’re human beings, and we have a relationship."
REPORTER: “Is he going to have a trust in the system?”
DICKEY: “Well, I’m trying to like I that’s why I talk about presumption of innocence, things like that. I’m hoping to instill that trust in the system with it. Again, I can’t comment any further on–”

STORYLINE:
Defense lawyer Thomas Dickey for a person charged in last week’s killing of United Healthcare’s CEO told the court Mangione wants a hearing on the extradition issue from Pennsylvania to New York. He has 14 days to challenge the detention. Prosecutors, meanwhile, have a month to seek a governor’s warrant out of New York.
The 26-year-old man appeared in a Pennsylvania courtroom Tuesday, where he was denied bail.
Luigi Nicholas Mangione was arrested Monday in the Dec. 4 attack on Brian Thompson after police say a worker at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, alerted them to a customer who resembled the suspected gunman. When arrested, Mangione had on him a gun that investigators believe was used in the attack and writings expressing anger at corporate America, police said.
