1. SOUNDBITE (English) Billy Bob Thornton, actor – on finding out about his GG nomination:
"Going to the campus and watching my girl go to her first year of college, it’s been really great. And then at 5:16 a.m., my publicist calls me and I thought something was wrong because they kind of treat me a little bit – I can see you’re a sports fan, you got your Lakers hat on – so this will make sense to you – the people who work with me, agent, manager, publicist, all of them, they kind of treat me like when a pitcher has a no hitter going and nobody talks to them during the game. So I wasn’t even sure the Golden Globes were nominating people this morning. So when I got the call, I just instantly thought, ‘Oh no, what’s happened, you know, why is Arnold calling me at 5:16 a.m.?"

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Billy Bob Thornton, actor:
"Yeah, I mean, we’ve talked a little bit about where it could possibly go. And, you know, I mean, and people ask me, ‘Are you doing a second season?’ And of course, you know, we’re sworn to secrecy. But I mean, all indications would be that we are because well, first of all, with this Golden Globe nomination, it brings attention to the project. You know, and usually, I mean, since the series has become a hit, you know, that it’s like a big show for Paramount. It makes sense. I mean, it stands to reason that they would do a second season, but we haven’t been officially told yet. So, you know, hopes are up that we will because I know that Taylor (Sheridan) has a lot more to say. So we’re sure hoping for that. And generally, when you don’t get a second season is when it’s a failure and you don’t get nominated for the Golden Globes. I’ll put it that way."
STORYLINE:
Billy Bob Thornton says he was surprised when he got the call about his Golden Globe Best TV Actor in a Drama nomination Monday morning.
"The people who work with me, agent, manager, publicist, all of them, they kind of treat me like when a pitcher has a no hitter going and nobody talks to them during the game. So I wasn’t even sure the Golden Globes were nominating people this morning. So when I got the call, I just instantly thought, ‘Oh no, what’s happened, you know, why is Arnold calling me at 5:16 a.m.?" he said.
The actor got the nod for his work in Taylor Sheridan’s show "Landman" set in the word of oil rigs in Texas. Thornton had played a small part in "1883," a spin-off from Sheridan’s massively successful "Yellowstone" and that’s how the two met. Sheridan went on to write "Landman" with Thornton in mind for the lead.
The show just came out in November and is still halfway through season one of streaming on Paramount+ and a second season is not yet confirmed. But Thornton is convinced his nomination just goes to prove they did something right.
"We’re sworn to secrecy. But I mean, all indications would be that we are because well, first of all, with this Golden Globe nomination, it brings attention to the project. You know, and usually, I mean, since the series has become a hit, you know, that it’s like a big show for Paramount. It makes sense.
