4. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Ilona Ogrodnichuk, local resident:
“I would never want to give up neither my territory nor my life for this territory, so I don’t even know. I think it would be fair to ask the military this opinion, since I don’t have many military people around me. It would be interesting to hear what they would say first before I would answer. But ideally, it would be a country without the existence of Russia, with all our territories, and if we could bring people back, it would be much better than it is now.”

7. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Anastasia Holub, local resident:
“I believe that the conditions should be primarily favorable for Ukraine, but it should be resolved diplomatically so that it actually ends, and hopefully, no matter what the conditions are, in a few years, it will not happen again. Neither in 5 nor in 10 years should we give Russia such a chance to, for example, reconsider, restore its resources, make certain stocks of ammunition, missiles, etc. so that it simply never happens again. That is, such conditions will be most favorable for us.”
8. Various of dozens of people taking photos and having fun
9. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Andrii Kutsyi, local resident:

STORYLINE:
Kyiv’s mayor on Friday helped switch the lights of the city’s main Christmas tree as dozens of locals took the opportunity to snap photos and get into the festive spirit.

Some residents took the time to reflect on the year that marked its second anniversary of Ukraine’s war with Russia.

It also came on the day that Russia launched 53 Shaheds and other types of drones at Ukraine overnight, air forces said Friday.

According to its daily report posted on Telegram, 32 drones were destroyed, 16 downed with jammers and 2 flew to the territory of Belarus.

In Kyiv, several explosions were heard overnight, authorities said air defense was at work.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy laid wreath at a memorial of fallen soldiers in Kyiv’s city center earlier when the country celebrated The Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
