STORYLINE:
China on Thursday confirmed it lifted bans on two Australian meat companies and said it supports deepening and expanding cooperation in bilateral trade.

He Yadong, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce spoke during a regular press briefing in Beijing and said China and Australia have made positive progress on a series of economic and trade issues.

"This fully demonstrates that as long as both sides insist on mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation, and strengthen communication and dialogue, they can properly resolve each other’s economic and trade concerns," He said.

The resumption of Australian meat imports from two Australian companies was approved on Tuesday, marking a complete lift on bans on Australian red meat.

The move comes as the two sides see a thawing relationship after several years of dispute in bilateral trade.

The Chinese Commerce Ministry also announced Tuesday it is banning exports to the United States of gallium, germanium, antimony and other key high-tech materials with potential military applications, as a general principle, lashing back at U.S. limits on semiconductor-related exports.

“This is a reasonable act to safeguard our own security and development interests, and fulfill the international obligations such as non-proliferation,” He said at the Thursday briefing.
