12. SOUNDBITE (Bulgarian) Iva Stefanova, communications and regulations manager at Ecopack:
"The cost of recycling plastic remains higher than producing new plastic from oil, posing a significant challenge for Europeans. The goal is to create an economic incentive that supports the circular economy. Currently, the solution involves having manufacturers of packaged goods cover the cost difference when using recycled materials. Ultimately, this expense is passed on to consumers.

"Unfortunately, Europe is leading the fight against this issue through legislative measures, restrictions, and incentives, while much of the world lags behind. It is crucial for the entire global community to adopt similar efforts, as plastic pollution is a universal challenge that demands collective action."

"Our workshops raise awareness about the importance of responsible waste management and the complexities of recycling. We emphasise that recycling is not a simple, one-step process. Throwing a cup into a recycling bin doesn’t mean it will automatically be transformed into another cup. Instead, our workshops provide an in-depth look at the entire recycling process, helping people understand the challenges and the critical role they play in making it effective."
