They’ve been extinct in nature since 2002, but a longstanding conservation program is bringing this bird back to the forest in Hawaii. The last remaining ‘alala, or Hawaiian crows, have been bred and trained in captivity. Now they’re being released on the island of Maui in hopes of expanding the species’ territory.
