STORYLINE:
Votes were being counted in Ireland’s election on Saturday as residents and business owners in Dublin expressed concerns over cost of living, immigration and housing.

Residents of Ballyfermot, a Dublin neighbourhood particularly affected by Ireland’s housing crisis, described the impact of the cost of living crisis.

One resident, John Murphy, said gas, electricity and food bills were "snowballing" and rent was "through the roof."

Another said he was worried about being perceived as far-right for expressing his concerns about immigration and housing.

A housing crisis and rising immigration are driving discontent with centre-right governing parties Fine Gael and Fianna Fail.
