Syrian rebels are closing in on the city of Hama. A UK-based war monitor says the rebels have nearly encircled the key city despite a counteroffensive by government forces meant to hold it. A sudden resurgence of the fight against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has already taken the country’s second-largest city, Aleppo. Hama may be a bigger prize, just 200 kilometers from Syria’s capital Damascus.
