Civilians returning home to southern Lebanon after ceasefire | BBC News

Thousands of Lebanese civilians are returning to their destroyed homes, hours after a ceasefire between Israel and the Iran-back armed group Hezbollah came into effect.

Traffic jams built up on the main highway out of Beirut to southern Lebanon as people queued up to return home.

Many were seen waving Hezbollah flags and posters showing the group’s deceased former leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The US-brokered ceasefire has put a temporary end to nearly 14 months of conflict that intensified when Israel launched a ground invasion against Hezbollah in October.
