STORYLINE:
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot reiterated support for Ukraine and called for increased efforts to ensure the defense of the European Union, as Tuesday marked 1,000 days since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“By defending their freedom and territorial integrity, Ukrainians are fighting for the security of the European continent, and for the defense of an international order based on law," he said.
Barrot was attending a meeting of foreign ministers of Poland, Germany, France and Italy.
“We have stated forcefully that we intend to mobilize all the levers at our disposal, including the financial and economic capacity of the European Union, for our security, for the development of the European defense industrial and technological base, and to counter the Putinization of the European continent," he added.
The foreign ministers’ meeting in Warsaw on Tuesday discussed stepping up Europe’s military support for Ukraine as well as ties with the United States under Donald Trump.
