STORYLINE:
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Sunday called for ‘leadership by example’ from G20 countries, stating that "failure is not an option" in the fight against climate change.

Guterres spoke at a news conference in Rio de Janeiro, on the eve of the G20 Summit that takes place Monday and Tuesday.

The United Nations chief also reiterated the need to seek peace for crises such as Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan and Ukraine.

Brazil is hosting the Group of 20 summit meeting in Rio de Janeiro amid two major wars and Donald Trump’s recent presidential election victory in the US.

Heightened global tensions and uncertainty about an incoming Trump administration have tempered any expectations for a strongly worded statement addressing the conflicts in the Middle East and between Russia and Ukraine.
