Japan’s new prime minister Shigeru Ishiba on Sunday held talks with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte.

Ishiba was in the country for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

A key point on the bilateral agenda was the expansion of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries, with special emphasis on the export of key minerals and foodstuffs to Japan.

The leaders also discussed ways to improve cooperation in science, technology and cultural relations.

Both countries signed a joint declaration that included a ten-year ‘road map’ to deepen and develop a strategic partnership.
