3. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Dick Durbin, (D) Illinois:
"In light of Donald Trump’s selection of former Congressman Matt Gaetz to be attorney general, I’m calling on the House Ethics Committee to preserve and share their report and all relevant documentation of Mr. Gaetz with the Senate Judiciary Committee."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Thom Tillis, (R) North Carolina:
"I want to believe that the House Ethics Committee, I assume that, you know, if they have the votes, they may. But, I mean, that’s up to them."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Dick Durbin, (D) Illinois:
"We cannot allow this valuable information from a bipartisan investigation to be hidden from the American people."

6. UPSOUND (English) reporter asking "On the issue of vetting, though, how critical is it then to have access to what the House Ethics Committee has found in their investigation?"
SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. John Cornyn, (R) Texas:
"I think there should not be any limitation on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s investigation, Including whatever the House Ethics Committee has generated."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Chris Coons, (D) Delaware:
"The results of this election were strong and fairly clear. President Trump has been reelected. He will have a majority in the Senate and the House. He is entitled to his nominations, but he is not entitled to a confirmation of any, literally any nominee."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Chris Coons, (D) Delaware:
"Congressman Gaetz, who I do not know personally, certainly has a reputation as a fierce advocate for President Trump, but also has been the subject of credible allegations of significant severe misconduct. So if the president is going to push Senate Republicans to not have a confirmation hearing so that someone can move forward who’s been the subject of credible allegations of sex trafficking, that would be a very difficult way to start his administration."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Thom Tillis, (R) North Carolina:
"Look, I barely know Gaetz. All I know is he likes picking fights on social media. He’ll have to deal with that in committees. But I don’t know his background. I’m going to look at it, give him a fair hearing."

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Lindsey Graham, (R) South Carolina:
"Elections have consequences. He chose Matt Gaetz. Matt will come before the committee, and he will be asked hard questions."

As Democratic senators want a House Ethics Committee report on former Congressman Matt Gaetz, (R) Florida, president-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, to be released, Republican counterparts say they will give him a fair hearing.

There is a long trail of stories about Gaetz’s personal conduct, including a federal investigation into allegations that he arranged to have sex with a minor. The investigation was closed without charges and Gaetz denies wrongdoing.

"In light of Donald Trump’s selection of former Congressman Matt Gaetz to be attorney general, I’m calling on the House Ethics Committee to preserve and share their report and all relevant documentation from Mr. Gaetz with the Senate Judiciary Committee." Sen. Dick Durbin, (D) Illinois, said. "We cannot allow this valuable information from a bipartisan investigation to be hidden from the American people."
