1. Sirens are heard in Haifa, UPSOUND: Sirens and several explosions
STORYLINE:
Sirens and explosions were heard in the northern Israeli city of Haifa on Thursday.
The army said in a statement that five rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory.
Most of the rockets were intercepted, and the rest fell in open areas, the army added.
Hezbollah began firing into Israel on Oct. 8, 2023, in solidarity with the Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip.
Since the conflict erupted, more than 3,000 people have been killed and some 13,600 wounded in Lebanon, the Health Ministry reported.
In Israel, at least 75 people have been killed and over 600 wounded by Hezbollah fire, according to the prime minister’s office.
Some 1.2 million people have been displaced by the conflict in Lebanon, according to government estimates.
Israeli officials estimate that about 60 thousand have been displaced in northern Israel.
The Israel-Hamas war began after Palestinian militants stormed into Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and abducting 250 others.
Israel’s military response in Gaza has killed more than 43,000 people, Palestinian health officials say.
They do not distinguish between civilians and combatants but say more than half of those killed were women and children.
