1. SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Sisak, The Associated Press:
++PARTIALLY COVERED++
"In a long awaited moment, Donald Trump’s fixer turned foe Michael Cohen took the witness stand at the former president’s criminal trial. Cohen talked about how for a decade, he lied and bullied and protected Donald Trump. He testified about how, when he became aware that Stormy Daniels was shopping a story about an extramarital sexual encounter with Trump, the story being shopped just before the 2016 election, Cohen says he went to Trump, and Trump said, this is a disaster. You need to take care of this. Cohen’s testimony puts together many of the pieces that prosecutors have been laying out at this trial over the last several weeks. He is the key to the prosecution case, linking Trump to the payment to Daniels, to arrangements to suppress other damaging stories. And then, as prosecutors continue their questioning in the afternoon and later this week, to the payments that Cohen received as reimbursement for the $130,000 he laid out to pay Stormy Daniels to keep quiet. So far, none of the fireworks that might be expected from a clash in court between Donald Trump and Michael Cohen. But keep in mind this is the prosecution that’s asking the questions so far. And the dynamics and the drama could change when Donald Trump’s lawyers get to cross-examine Cohen later on."

STORYLINE:
Donald Trump’s fixer-turned-foe, Michael Cohen, is directly implicating the former president in a hush money scheme.
He told jurors during highly anticipated testimony Monday that his celebrity client approved hefty payouts to stifle stories about sex that he feared could be harmful to his 2016 White House campaign.
Cohen quoted Trump as telling him to “handle it” after learning that a doorman had come forward with a claim that he had fathered a child out-of-wedlock.
The Trump Tower doorman was paid $30,000 to keep the story “off the market” even though the claim was ultimately deemed unfounded.
A similar episode occurred after Cohen alerted Trump that a Playboy model alleged that she and Trump had had an extramarital affair.
