1. SOUNDBITE (English) Aseel Baidoun, Advocacy and Campaigns Senior Manager with Medical Aid for Palestinians:
"First of all, we are not surprised, as the U.S. has been not only an ally of Israel, but a composite of all Israel’s war crimes and the potential genocide on the people of Gaza. So the assessment that the Israelis are in violation of U.S. law or not. I mean, it…it’s really frustrating because but almost every objective metric, all agencies say that the humanitarian situation has gotten worse in that time frame that the U.S. has specified. The U.N. and all agencies has been reporting that just 30 trucks are entering Gaza daily, even though the U.S. said 300 trucks and everything that the U.S. has asked from Israel, Israel has dismissed it. But however, the U.S. announced that the Israeli side has done enough to avoid sanctions. And even though we have provided all the evidence that there is a risk of famine or famines is already taking place in northern Gaza, still the U.S. miraculously finds Israel not violating the humanitarian aid law."

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Aseel Baidoun, Advocacy and Campaigns Senior Manager with Medical Aid for Palestinians:
"The main challenge for delivering aid and distributing aid is, first of all, the Israeli systematic policies of restricting aid, denying and delaying the delivery of aid. However, even if you manage to get aid into Gaza, there’s a big safety concerns as there’s indiscriminate, constant bombardment, which makes it really unsafe for humanitarian workers to deliver aid. They can be a target at any moment. And we have witnessed many incidents, many incidents where Israeli army targeted a delivery ending with a lot of casualties between civilians collecting aid and humanitarian workers."

"In addition, due to the restrictive measures in aid and the using of weapon as using starvation as a weapon of war and targeting security officials in Gaza and policemen, it ended up with the issue of looting. So now we have many aid deliveries being looted, and that’s a natural consequence of all the measures that Israel has been imposing on Gaza, including siege, the security bombardment."

STORYLINE:
Eight international aid groups have said that Israel has failed to meet U.S. demands for greater humanitarian access to the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, where hunger experts say the north may already be experiencing famine.

However, the Biden administration said Tuesday it won’t limit weapons transfers to Israel because the U.S. says its key ally has made good but limited progress in increasing the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Aid groups have criticized the Biden administration, even saying it wasn’t a surprise from Israel’s closest ally.

"First of all, we are not surprised, as the U.S. has been not only an ally of Israel, but a composite of all Israel’s war crimes and the potential genocide on the people of Gaza," said Aseel Baidoun, Advocacy and Campaigns Senior Manager with Medical Aid for Palestinians.

"We have provided all the evidence that there is a risk of famine or famine is already taking place in northern Gaza, still the U.S. miraculously finds Israel not violating the humanitarian aid law," she added.

The war began when Hamas-led militants stormed into Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking another 250 people hostage.
