STORYLINE:
A Palestinian father mourned his two daughters on Tuesday after they were among six people killed in an Israeli airstrike close to a UN agency clinic in central Gaza.
The bodies were brought to the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, where they were counted by an Associated Press journalist.
The Israeli strike hit near to the clinic run by UNRWA, the UN agency caring for Palestinian refugees, in Deir al-Balah.
Prayers were held for the dead outside the hospital before the bodies were taken away for burial.
Separate Israeli attacks on Nuseirat refugee camp early Tuesday and Khan Younis late Monday killed a further 14 people, according to hospital officials.
Israel’s military response in Gaza has killed more than 43,000 people, Palestinian health officials say.
The officials do not distinguish between civilians and combatants, but say more than half of those killed were women and children.
The Israel-Hamas war began after Palestinian militants stormed into Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and abducting 250 others.
