3. SOUNDBITE (English) Maggie Verde, "Anora" fan/Glendale resident:
"I really like movie merch because it’s another way to, like, express yourself. Especially since movie merch is, it’s not the same as like, music. Like music, you go to concerts, you go to like a show. There’s always something. But for movies, the only way you can really rep the merch is like a DVD. But companies like Neon are doing something different by actually targeting like their customer base and creating merch and knowing that like, hey, these customers, these moviegoers want to actually represent the movies that they like and they love and watch."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Nathan Zakim, "Anora" fan/writer:
"Not only is it so in style, it’s exclusive, which I mean, that makes it so much cooler that one of these shirts is like, it’s only here. Exclusive is a, you know, buzz word. But it really is. It’s an exclusive event because we all wait in line. We all saw the movie. I think the movie merch mania should go on for as long as it can."

"I think it’s so fun and, like, knowing that everyone loves the movie so much to go, like, stand in line for multiple hours. Like, I got here, like, three hours before it even opened, and there’s probably, like, 30 people in front of me. So the fact that, like, people are willing to, like, spend their time and their money and like whatever to come out and like, support something."

STORYLINE:
Fans lined up for hours to get their hands on exclusive merchandise at the one-day "Anora" pop-up in Los Angeles on Saturday.

"I’m really surprised. This is like two blocks," Vache Tovmasyan, who stars in the film and made a surprise appearance at the event, said of the line. "I absolutely love it."

Starring Mikey Madison, "Anora" tells the story of a Brooklyn exotic dancer who spontaneously marries the son of a Russian oligarch. The pop-up came after the success of a similar event in New York at the strip club where the movie takes place.

"It’s an exclusive event because we all wait in line. We all saw the movie. I think the movie merch mania should go on for as long as it can," said Nathan Zakim, who got in line at 10 a.m. for the pop-up, which opened at 3 p.m.

The pop-up took place at Kings of Body auto shop on Melrose Ave. Neon displayed the t-shirts and thongs in the back of car that is the same model as the one featured in the movie.

The Neon film in theaters now, which won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes, was written and directed by Sean Baker.
