3. SOUNDBITE (English) Anthony Romero, ACLU Executive Director:
"Well, we’re clear-eyed that President Trump presents a clear and present danger to the nation’s fundamental freedoms. We know what he’s promised. We know what he did the first time around as president. We have muscle memory when it came to fighting President Trump. From 2016 to 2020, we filed 434 legal actions, 250 lawsuits, and they raised a broad array of issues around LGBT, immigration, the separation of powers. And we know that President Trump this time around is going to double down."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Anthony Romero, ACLU Executive Director:
"We know they’re going to come in and have a really clear agenda and they’ll be much more competent in moving that agenda. Some of the rookie errors they made in 2016, they’re not going to make the second time around. The Muslim ban that they enacted in 2017, it took them three bites of the apple before they were able to perfect it almost two years later. We don’t expect those same mistakes to happen in the second Trump administration. We know they’re going to be much more focused. They’ve done their homework. They’re much more prepared. They have muscle memory about knowing how to govern and how to run the federal government from 2016 to 2020, that they’re going to use in this next administration. And so we’re clear that the challenges we will confront this time around are going to be even greater than what we saw in the first time around."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Donald Trump, President-elect:
"(Crowd chants: "USA. USA. USA") Thank you all very much. This is great. These are all our friends. We have thousands of friends in this … incredible movement. This is a movement that nobody has seen before."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Anthony Romero, ACLU Executive Director:
"We’re clear eyed and focused on the policies of the second Trump administration. Whatever outcome of the legal challenges that he confronts, he has been duly elected the president of United States. He will have the power of the presidency of the United States. He will have the full authority of all the executive branch’s agencies at his command. And so we’re focused on how do we fight for the rights of immigrants, the rights of LGBT people, the rights of communities of color and racial and ethnic minorities, the rights of dissidents to speak their minds. And so for us, it’s all about getting ready for what we know is inevitable, which is President Trump will be the 47th president taking the oath of office in January, 2025."
