RR7649A UK ULSTER WOMEN MARCH FOR PEACE

(10 Dec 1976) UK ULSTER WOMEN MARCH FOR PEACE
In Northern Ireland the split between Protestants and Catholics, Republicans and Loyalists, is one that most people doubted could ever be healed. Yet one incident in 1976 changed all that. The death of three innocent children caused a wave of emotion amongst Ulster wives and mothers who realised it was time they stood up and spoke out against the senseless violence that daily threatens their young ones. Out of their fervour sprang a unique peace movement. Now, just six months later, the leaders of that movement have travelled the world, gained support abroad and won a special prize for peace in Oslo.
