3. SOUNDBITE (English) Seth Borenstein, The Associated Press:
"There’s been horrible, devastating flooding in Spain, in Valencia and other places, all in Spain. At the same time as Spain has 2 or 3 meters of water on the ground and cars are being tossed around like driftwood. In the United States, we are heading to record flash drought here in October."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Seth Borenstein, The Associated Press:
"How can you have these two things happening at the same time? And the answer is: They’re connected. They’re connected because of something called the jetstream. This is this river of air high above Earth. There’s one in the northern hemisphere, one in the southern hemisphere. It moves back and forth, north and south every now and then. But it goes west to east. And the more it slows down, the more it gets stuck, the wavier it gets. Then weather systems get stuck in a place. So if it’s raining a lot in Spain, you get a lot more rain because it’s not moving."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Seth Borenstein, The Associated Press:
"One of the latest theories with climate change is that the jetstream at times gets wavier and stuck more often because of climate change, specifically because the Arctic is warming faster than other parts of the world."

13. SOUNDBITE (English) Seth Borenstein, The Associated Press:
"There is one clear climate change connection, scientists have told me, and that is basic physics. The air holds more moisture when it’s warmer. It’s just the way physics works. As a matter of fact, for every degree Celsius, it’s 7% more moisture in the air, and that’s basically 4% for every degree Fahrenheit. It has warmed 1.3°C more than it was in pre-industrial times. That’s 9% more rain in the air. And that means most of it comes down."

16. SOUNDBITE (English) Seth Borenstein, The Associated Press:
"The interesting thing is in the 1950s, the same area of Valencia, Spain, had similar weather conditions and it had a flood. It didn’t flood nearly as much because it was cool. Less moisture in the air. That’s one of the things that climate scientists point to. More moisture in the air, more moisture coming down."
