Bangladesh: Injured student protesters face long road to recovery | DW News

A student uprising in July 2024 brought down the Bangladeshi government – and forced Sheikh Hasina to flee the country.

Back then, video clips of overjoyed protesters filled the world’s social media, following Hasina’s downfall. Her government had carried out a long and brutal crackdown as she tried to cling to power. According to Bangladesh’s health ministry, more than 1,000 people were killed by security forces – and 30,000 people were injured. Some of them are still in hospital today.

DW’s Beenish Javed met with protesters still struggling to recover from their injuries in Dhaka.
