Germany’s response to Tehran came too late for Jamshid Sharmahd | DW News

Germany says it is closing all three general consulates in the country, in response to the execution of a German-Iranian dual national in Tehran three days ago. Foreign minister Annalena Baerbock announced the move, saying relations with Iran had reached an ‘all-time low’. She called for the EU to extend sanctions against Iran. Berlin had been warning of ‘severe consequences’ for months prior to the execution of 69-year old Jamshid Sharmahd. Germany’s ambassador to Iran left Tehran yesterday as diplomatic tensions continue to rise. Analysis from DW’s Political Correspondent Giulia Saudelli, and from Behnam Ben Talebu, from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
