STORYLINE:
An explosion and blast sound were captured by an Associated Press camera in Beirut after an Israeli airstrike.
The area hit was in southern Beirut.
Lebanon’s health ministry said Friday that 41 people were killed and 133 wounded in the past 24 hours, raising the total toll over the past year of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah to 2,634 killed and 12,252 wounded.
Earlier, Israel’s continuing air campaign over Lebanon saw a rare airstrike in the southeast of the country that hit a residence where journalists were staying on Friday, levelling the building and killing three media workers sleeping there.
Thick dust churned up by the bombardment coated cars marked “PRESS” parked outside the ruins of the guest house.
Al-Manar TV, operated by Hezbollah, and the Beirut-based Al-Mayadeen TV, an outlet seen as aligned with the militant group, said its staffers were among those killed.
Lebanon’s Health Minister said Friday that 11 journalists have been killed and eight wounded since Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group began trading cross-border fire in October 2023.
Israel’s military says militants in Lebanon fired 45 projectiles into Israel Friday, including some which were intercepted by Israel’s air defenses and others that fell in open areas.
