STORYLINE:
Workers at a 70,0000 square-foot factory in Newark, New Jersey, is producing 5,000 Harris Walz hats a day for the campaign.
Mitch Cahn, owner and founder of Unionwear, says the hats are going to fill online orders and for political action committee events and other campaign activities, and for campaign donors. The most popular design is in hunter’s camouflage, which is popular among younger people and older people in the Midwest.
Sewing machine operators assisted by automatic embroidery machines build the hats. Cahn said Biden hats were not selling, but when Harris became the nominee orders surged. The factory also made Make America Great Again hats for the Trump campaign in 2015.
Cahn bought the business in 1992 and now has 165 workers – union workers making hats made in America.
