1. Plumes of smoke seen billowing over northern Israel
STORYLINE:
Plumes of smoke were seen billowing over the skyline of northern Israel on Wednesday, as officials said about 30 projectile launches were identified crossing from Lebanon.
A spokesperson from the Israeli fire and rescue service said in a statement that direct hits, which fell in open areas, were reported in the Kiryat Shmona city area.
Hezbollah began firing rockets, missiles and drones into Israel, drawing retaliatory airstrikes, after Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack out of Gaza triggered the war there.
The conflict has since escalated with Israeli strikes killing Hezbollah’s top leader, Hassan Nasrallah, and most of his senior commanders.
Israeli ground forces also invaded southern Lebanon at the beginning of October.
