UK’s Starmer wants ‘forward thinking’ on colonial history as Commonwealth summit opens in Samoa

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Thursday that he wanted to be "forward thinking" about Britain’s colonial history with the British leader set to face difficult questions from nations its empire once colonized at a meeting in Samoa. A confrontation for Britain over its role in the trans-Atlantic slave trade appeared increasingly likely to feature at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, after Caribbean leaders said they would thrust the matter of financial reparations into the spotlight at the event.
