"Elad, thank you for the 23 years I had the privilege of being by your side and learning from you as a big brother. I will miss it so much. We are now on a journey. I believe there will be difficult days. But, like you liked to say – keep smiling and stay strong."

"Every situation where I didn’t know what to do I thought – what would you do? Because somehow you would always manage to look at a situation in a different way, with more lightness and clarity. I take with me the few years we were together – the experiences we went through, the jokes we cracked, the nerves that broke, the hills we climbed, the meet-ups we had."

STORYLINE:
Mourners gathered in Petah Tikva on Friday as a funeral was held for an Israeli soldier killed in southern Lebanon.

Crowds of people and military personnel attended the service for Elad Siman, a team leader in a Golani Recon unit, where friends and relatives laid flowers and paid emotional tributes to the 23-year-old.

The Israeli military has said it would activate an additional reserve brigade to the north to support troops battling in southern Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group has said it is entering a new phase in its fight against invading Israeli troops, adding that it has introduced new weapons over the past days.
