One of the most important political developments in Europe in the last two years has been the decision of West German Chancellor Willy Brandt to pursue a policy of rapprochement with the states of Eastern Europe. Earlier this year, the Chancellor signed a non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union; more recently, West Germans and Poles have been meeting in Warsaw to prepare an agreement which is expected to include Bonn’s recognition of Poland’s western frontier – the Oder-Neisse line.
