STORYLINE:
China said Thursday that it still had “significant differences” with the European Union over negotiations on EV tariffs.

“What I want to emphasize is that so far, China has shown the greatest sincerity and flexibility,” said He Yadong, spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Commerce, at a press briefing Thursday. "The European side has not actively responded to issues involving the core concerns of the Chinese and European industries."

China and the EU are in talks on reducing or eliminating the tariffs of up to 35.3% on Chinese EVs, which would take effect at the end of the month.

“The Chinese side has officially invited the technical team of the European side to come to China soon to continue the next round of face-to-face consultations,” He said.

In what appears to be a tit-for-tat move, China has opened a series of anti-dumping investigations into European brandy, pork and dairy products as a now year-old EU investigation into Chinese EV exports has progressed through various stages.

China is also studying whether to raise tariffs on imported cars with large engines, He added.
