“In terms of crops, if the temperature rises by one degree Celsius, you will see a steep rise in low quality grains. Roughly one degree rise equates to roughly 10 percent increase in low quality crops. Perhaps people think that an increase of one degree Celsius in average temperature isn’t much. But it’s quite a big change for plants and crops."

“(When affected by heat) the appearance of the grains is bad, but they are also said to have a bad taste too. And the grain becomes brittle, so they break down when the rice goes through milling at the end. This reduces the amount of rice grains produced.”
