STORYLINE:
The Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza said at least 3 people have been killed and as many as 50 others injured in several blasts near the medical facility early Monday.
In a statement, the Israeli army said it conducted a "precise” strike on Hamas militants operating in the compound located in Deir al-Balah.
Several explosions followed the strike and can be seen on video shot by the AP.
Tents caught fire, and residents carried the injured into the hospital while dozens rushed to the building seeking shelter.
Desperate Palestinians attempted to quell the flames with blankets, fire extinguishers and water before firefighters put out the blaze.
The strike in the central Gaza Strip city of Deir al-Balah comes after an Israeli airstrike killed at least 20 people, including children, at a school Sunday night, according to two local hospitals.
The school in Nusseirat was sheltering many Palestinians displaced by the war.
More than 42,000 people have been killed since the war erupted on October last year, according to the Gaza’s Health Ministry which does not differentiate between militants and civilians.
The Israel-Hamas war started after the militants’ attack in southern Israel that killed about 1,200 people. About 250 were kidnapped, about 100 still remain in captivity, some believed to be dead.
