1. SOUNDBITE (English) Mike Sisak, The Associated Press:
“Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs will stand trial in May on his sex trafficking charges. A judge at a hearing in Manhattan set the trial date, also discussing a gag order imposed on prosecutors and the defense, telling them not to discuss the case or provide any material about the case to the media, to the public.”

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Mike Sisak, The Associated Press:
“They contend that the government leaked damaging piece of evidence potentially against Combs when a videotape from 2016 was played on CNN earlier this year. That video shows Sean Combs and his then girlfriend, Cassie, in a hotel in Los Angeles. It had been secret, private for many years, but then it came to the forefront and was played publicly on CNN. The defense contends that that tape was leaked by investigators. Prosecutors say they have no knowledge of any leak, and they refute the allegation that they were involved in any leaks."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Mike Sisak, The Associated Press:

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Mike Sisak, The Associated Press:
“Sean Combs will remain in jail. He is at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. His lawyers are appealing a judge’s decision to deny him bail – that is playing out separately from the trial and the pretrial proceedings. But as of this moment, as of today, in this week, Sean Combs remains behind bars in the jail in Brooklyn where his lawyers say he is trying to make the best of a difficult situation, but that the jail, it is hard conditions that he’s facing there.”

STORYLINE:
Sean “Diddy” Combs made his first court appearance before Judge Arun Subramanian in Manhattan Thursday.
Subramanian is expected to preside over Combs’ trial on sex trafficking charges. He has pleaded not guilty to charges including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking stemming from allegations dating back to 2008.
Lawyers for the hip-hop powerbroker have been trying to get Combs freed on bail since his Sept. 16 arrest. Two judges have concluded he would be a danger to the community if he is freed.
On Thursday, his attorneys requested for the judge to issue a gag order on the case.
“We really want to put an end to all of the clowning that we see on the Internet. This is a serious proceeding with serious consequences. And all of us are addressing it, accordingly,” attorney Anthony Ricco told reporters after the hearing.
When asked how he’s doing, Ricco said Combs was “doing fine" and making the most of a difficult situation.
