STORYLINE:
Mourners gathered on Tuesday for the funeral of some of the victims of an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon.

Relatives wept as prayers were performed, followed by the burial of the bodies.

At least 45 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes that hit two adjacent buildings east of the southern city of Sidon, the Lebanese health ministry said.

The consecutive strikes on Sunday on Ain el-Delb, east of Sidon, were caught on camera by neighbors in the area.

The health ministry said the strikes also injured at least 60 people, who were pulled from under the rubble.

In the video verified by The Associated Press, one strike caused a huge plume of smoke.

The second one hit an adjacent building, causing it first to sway to the right, before collapsing.

It took rescue workers two days to remove survivors and bodies from under the rubble.

Israeli airstrikes have intensified in Lebanon’s south and the Bekaa region on Sunday, with local media reporting relentless airstrikes in the daytime.

On Tuesday, Israel said its ground troops crossed into Lebanon overnight, launching what the military described as “localized” raids to root out Hezbollah fighters and infrastructure.

Hezbollah denied Israeli troops had entered Lebanon, but hours later the Israeli army announced it had also carried out dozens of ground raids into southern Lebanon going back nearly a year.
