STORYLINE:
Thousands of drones failed to fly in Hong Kong Monday night for a show scheduled to mark the 75th anniversary of the Peoples’ Republic of China.

Government officials from Hong Kong and mainland China sat waiting and watching as a choir of a thousand young people also waited.

A thousand-strong choir of young people was also waiting to start their performance.

After about 45 minutes of delay, Hong Kong’s number two local official, Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan got up to make his speech.

The show went on, with singing and dancing, but no drones.

Two thousand and ninety-nine drones were planned to fly, according to local government announcements, making images above Hong Kong’s iconic Victoria Harbour.

Workers at the event, speaking off the record, said there was a problem in getting the signal right for the drones.

Tuesday Oct. 1 is the national day of the People’s Republic of China.
